We spend a lot of time up on roofs, getting the best views of Streetsboro, and let us tell you, it’s a pretty special place. We’re not just about metal roofing, skylight repair, and skylight installation; we’re also about community, and Streetsboro is truly our home. So, we wanted to take a moment to talk about what makes this town so great, from its interesting history to the diverse homes we get to work on every day.
You know, when you’re driving around Streetsboro, you see a mix of old and new, and that really tells the story of our town. It’s hard to imagine now, but this area started out as pretty wild, untamed land. It was part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, and back in the late 1700s and early 1800s, people started venturing west, looking for new opportunities. Streetsboro was officially established in 1822 and named after Titus Street, one of the original proprietors. But let’s rewind a bit further and look at one of our neighboring communities with a unique founding story: Sebring.
From Log Cabins to Greek Revival Home Architecture
Sebring, while a bit further east, shares a similar pioneering spirit and its founding is a fascinating tale of industry and vision. It was founded in 1887 by the four Sebring brothers – Oliver, George, Frank, and Elsworth. These guys weren’t looking for farmland; they were looking to build an industrial hub. They purchased a huge tract of land and, get this, they literally laid out the town themselves! They started a pottery factory, the Oliver China Company, which became a huge success and drew people from all over. They even built homes for their workers, creating a real sense of community right from the start. It’s a testament to what a few determined people can accomplish when they have a dream. That kind of entrepreneurial spirit, that desire to build something lasting, really resonates with us at Eagle Eye Roofing. We’re always striving for that same quality and dedication in every skylight repair or metal roofing job we do.
Shifting back to Streetsboro, when you look at the homes around here, you can almost see the history unfold. When the first settlers arrived, they were building pretty simple, functional structures. Think log cabins or very basic timber-frame houses, designed for survival and practicality. As the town grew and people had more resources, you started seeing more refined styles. In the mid-1800s, Greek Revival was popular, with those stately columns and symmetrical designs. You can still spot some of these grand old homes, often with their original wood siding – which, by the way, sometimes needs a good skylight installation to bring in more light!
Then the Victorian Era and Italianate Charm
Then came the Victorian era, a really fun time for architecture! Homes got a lot more ornate, with intricate trim, turrets, and often vibrant colors. Think Queen Anne or Italianate styles, each with its own charm and character. Today, Streetsboro is a vibrant mix of all these styles, plus plenty of newer construction. We see everything from classic colonials to contemporary designs, often with large windows and sometimes even flat roofs that benefit immensely from high-quality metal roofing.
