Power of the Cuyahoga River

It all started because people were realizing the power of the Cuyahoga River. That river, with its falls, wasn’t just pretty to look at. Although we do like to take our families hiking in Gorge park to get some fresh air. This river, it could power mills! Back to the original point, people started settling here to harness that water power for things like grinding grain and making paper. This little settlement grew because of that industry. You can still see some of that history around if you know where to look, in some of the older buildings and the way the town is laid out near the river. Make sure you walk behind the Sheraton Hotel, or walk the trails off Front Street.

As time went on, Cuyahoga Falls grew and changed. It became more of a town, and then as Akron got bigger, the areas around the Falls started to become those “suburbs” we’re talking about. People wanted a bit more space, maybe a bigger yard than you’d find near downtown Akron or neighboring cities, but still wanted to be close enough for work and all the amenities.

That’s kind of the vibe you get today. You’ve got that feeling of being a little removed, a bit quieter than the city, but you’re not out in the middle of corn fields either. You’ve got your grocery stores, your local restaurants, your parks and schools – all the stuff you need for everyday life. And if you want to catch a concert, Blossom Music Center is a quick short drive nearby.

From our perspective as roofers, living in Cuyahoga Falls is great. People take pride in their homes, and that means they usually live in them a long time. So, yeah, living in the suburbs of Cuyahoga Falls seems like a pretty good deal. You get that community feel, a mix of nice homes with their own stories, and you’re connected to a history that goes way back. It’s not too fast, not too slow – just a solid place to put down roots.
